Sturdy footwear
Starting in Mitterbach, follow the Erlauf Reservoir to Hagengut, then continue along Ötscherstraße past the “old millwheel” toward Ötscherhias. Through the Ötschergräben on narrow paths and trails to Stierwaschboden, past the Lassingfall, and back to Wienerbruck, where the hike ends at the Ötscher-Basis, right next to the train station.
Alternative route: Branch off from Stierwaschboden through the Hintere Tormäuer to Erlaufboden (no connection to public transportation; the hike up to Gösing and the Mariazellerbahn takes about 1 hour)

Coming from Linz: Take the A1 exit for Ybbs/Donau—head toward Eisenstraße—follow the B25 to Mitterbach
Coming from Vienna: Take the A1 to the St. Pölten Süd exit – head toward Mariazell – follow the B20 to Mitterbach
Travel tip: Drive to the parking lot at the Ötscherbasis in Wienerbruck and take the Mariazellerbahn to Mitterbach.
